An Oklahoma City attorney is facing serious criminal charges after police say she entered a local daycare, claimed she was sent by God, and attempted to take a child who was not her own.

Tracy Zoll, 49, was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail following the incident at Westminster Presbyterian Church’s daycare center. According to court documents and police reports, Zoll entered the facility through an unsecured door, walked into a classroom, and tried to lure a two-year-old child out of the room. A quick-acting teacher intervened, grabbing the child and redirecting other children to safety.

Zoll reportedly told staff members that she had been sent by God “to be with the children,” and refused to leave the premises until asked to do so. She was later located and arrested at her home, which is less than a mile from the daycare.

No children were physically harmed during the incident, but the event has raised serious concerns about the safety of child care facilities in the area. There’s also the question of professional conduct of attorneys who are licensed in the state.

“This is deeply troubling,” said Oklahoma City Police, noting that the suspect’s status as a licensed attorney adds a disturbing layer to the case. “We have to assume she has clients who depend on her.”

Zoll has a documented history of legal and behavioral concerns. In 2011, she was suspended from practicing law for one year by the Oklahoma Bar Association after self-reporting a felony arrest for prescription forgery. More recently, in 2021, she was charged with two misdemeanors after threatening to kill her former employer and a coworker. A protective order remains in place against her by one of those former colleagues.

When contacted about the incident, the Oklahoma Bar Association confirmed it is aware of the charges. “It is always concerning when a licensed Oklahoma attorney is charged with a crime,” a spokesperson said. “The Oklahoma Bar Association monitors and follows all such pending criminal matters.”

Zoll is currently being held on a $25,000 bond at the Oklahoma County Jail. Efforts to reach the daycare for comment were unsuccessful as of publication.

Zoll’s past raises questions about how closely the state monitors attorneys with documented behavioral issues or criminal charges. Legal professionals are held to strict ethical standards, and the bar association has the authority to suspend or disbar attorneys who pose a risk to the public.

Her latest arrest is likely to trigger a renewed review of her license and could result in further disciplinary action from the bar.

As the criminal investigation continues, parents at the daycare and members of the broader Oklahoma City community are left shaken—and demanding answers about how someone with Zoll’s background was able to gain access to a daycare center.
